Abstract

This article aims to analyze the world coffee market and its degree of concentration between 2008 and 2018. This study uses the indices: concentration ratio CR (k) and Herfindahl-Hirschman (HHI). The data used to calculate these indices were obtained from UN Comtrade. The results show that the countries that constitute the CR (4) were, in most years, Brazil, Vietnam, Germany and India. The CR (8) was represented by Brazil, Vietnam, India, Germany, Colombia, China, Indonesia and Switzerland. The results found for the CR (4) and also for the CR (8) classify the world coffee market as not highly concentrated. The average value of HHI in the period was approximately 516.02, classifying, again, the world coffee market as non-concentrated.
